Seattle Humane’s Ongoing Commitment

Seattle Humane’s mission and vision are strong—we are here to care for the animals who need us and support our clients and community with the goal of creating a more humane world.

Like so many organizations in our region and around the country, the cost of doing business has gone up—increased prices for pet food, more expensive medicine needed to care for pets in our Schuler Family Medical Center, and even just the cost of keeping the water flowing and lights on.   We are doing our part, across the whole team, to actively find more efficient and sustainable ways of working as we weather the current economic realities.

To support this effort, our Chief Advancement Officer Jessie Swisher Spiers has stepped in as Interim CEO at the request of the Board of Directors. As part of her collaborative leadership approach, she is working with a group of experts representing all areas of the organization to provide stability, clarity and direction in the coming months. Christopher Ross, our previous CEO, is leaving the organization.

Seattle Humane has served our region for over 125 years because of the generous support of the community. Today, more than 83 percent of our funding comes from grassroots donations and planned gifts, and our ability to continue to save lives and support pet families depends on the generosity of our community above all else. We are so encouraged by the amazing response and ongoing support of our Rescue Squad.

Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers at Seattle Humane is proud to continue finding loving families for thousands of pets in our shelter, serving nearly a million meals a year through our pet food bank and offering lifesaving veterinary care. Thank you for your support in making this possible!
