Leadership, Service and a Love of Animals: Meet Dr. Peter Brown
Dr. Peter Brown joined Seattle Humane’s Board of Directors in 2026, bringing a lifelong commitment to animals, veterinary medicine and the human-animal bond.
A respected veterinary leader, Peter brings decades of experience in clinical care, team development, client service and organizational leadership. Throughout his career, he has helped build and lead veterinary practices across the Pacific Northwest, with a particular focus on cultivating strong teams and enhancing every aspect of the client and patient experience.
“My mission as a veterinarian is: how do we get one more birthday together with our four-legged best friends?”
Peter’s connection to animal welfare runs deeper than his veterinary career. He has served advisory roles with animal rescue organizations throughout Washington and has long been committed to giving back to his community.
“Having a pet improves people’s lives; it should never be for only the privileged.”
Today, Peter serves as a board member and part-time veterinarian at Cara Veterinary, a Seattle-based veterinary group. He is also a Key Opinion Leader and speaker for IDEXX Laboratories, where he serves on the Medical Advisory Board, as well as the advisory board for MWI. His expertise has taken him around the world as a speaker on veterinary medicine, service design and customer experience.
Whether mentoring veterinary professionals, developing high-performing teams, supporting animal rescue organizations or serving his community through Rotary International, he believes that meaningful change starts with bringing people together around a shared purpose.
Outside of veterinary medicine and community service, Peter enjoys spending time outdoors and taking on endurance challenges. He has completed marathons and triathlons and recently cycled through the Pyrenees. He and his wife, Karin, live in Bellingham with their rescue Pit Bull mix, Griffey, and three cats, Smoars, Jolly and Boo. Their three adult children also live in the area.
