Two Young Animal Advocates Fighting to Stop Puppy and Kitten Mills

Share:

As many of you know, every year, millions of puppies and kittens are inhumanely bred in mills across the United States. Many of them are neglected and die from inhumane conditions, but two young Washington State animal welfare advocates, Novia Liu and Ava Finn, are committed to change that.

Novia Liu and Ava Finn are fighting for Washington State to pass an ordinance making the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits not sourced from a shelter or rescue illegal for pet stores.

In 2018, California and Maryland both passed laws that prevent retail pet stores from purchasing cats and dogs — and rabbits in California’s case — unless they come from an animal shelter.

Following California and Maryland’s examples, Novia and Ana want Washington State legislature to pass an ordinance making the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits not sourced from a shelter or rescue illegal for pet stores. To do this, they started a petition on Change.org. So far, their petition has just more than 3,100 signatures. Help them reach their goal of 5,000 by signing and sharing the petition today.
