Are you ready to adopt a new family member? We’ve set up our Adoption 101 process at Seattle Humane to make sure you and your new pet are a good match. Here’s how it works:
1. Look for a pet
The best way to find a pet is to come to our shelter in Bellevue. But you can start looking for pets now:
Read each pet’s description to see if they’re compatible with children and/or other animals. This is especially important if you have small children and/or other pets in the home.
2. Fill out pre-adoption questionnaire and submit it for approval
Once you see a pet you’re interested in meeting, fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire. You can do this at our shelter, or print out a questionnaire now and complete it before coming in.
Bring your completed questionnaire to an Adoption Advisor at the shelter. We review questionnaires on a first-come, first served basis. Please plan on spending time at the shelter for the adoption process.
3. Speak with an Adoption Advisor
Our goal is to match adopters with an animal companion who fits their lifestyle. Your form will be reviewed while you wait, and then you’ll meet with an Adoption Advisor. They’ll tell you more about your selected pet(s) and help you identify your best match.
4. Visit with your four-legged match
We’re committed to rehoming the animals in our care to environments that are safe and healthy for both the pet and the owner. For that reason, your entire family may be required to visit, including any dogs you already have. If the pet you’ve selected is not a good match, we may have others who will be a great fit!
5. Complete the adoption paperwork and pay fees

Our Working Cat program
What is a working cat?
Semi-feral or feral cats aren’t comfortable around people as indoor companion pets but can be placed in private homes, barns, or local businesses like wineries or breweries for pest control. When Seattle Humane receives applications for working cats, we work with other shelters to transfer in cats suited to your situation. All cats are adopted in pairs for companionship, and are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to placement. These cats will require a solid structure for warmth, and daily food and water.
