Seattle Humane’s August Foster Spotlight Carine has always had pets, but when her grown kids moved out and took their cats with them, she found herself with an empty nest she could fill with shelter cats needing a little TLC before completing their journeys home.
“I’ve always wanted to make a tangible difference in animals’ lives, and Seattle Humane’s mission deeply resonated with me,” Carine says. “Their support and compassion made it easy to get involved.”
Carine started fostering with Seattle Humane in January and has already made a huge impact on so many cats’ lives, from young kittens to shy and fearful felines needing time to decompress.
Bonded cats Pengi and RooRoo were surrendered to Seattle Humane back in April and were very shut down on campus. They needed a quieter space more reminiscent of the home they once had. Carine took them in for a month, allowing them to show their true selves – they were adopted shortly after returning to campus.
“Pengi and RooRoo came to me so timid and unsure, and watching them grow into a confident, loving companion was incredibly rewarding,” she says. “Their transformation reminded me why fostering matters so much.”
“You don’t need to be perfect – you just need to be patient, compassionate and open to learning. The love you get in return is beyond anything you could imagine,” she says.
“Knowing I played a small part in their journey makes every moment worth it.”
