Volunteer: How to Get Started

Volunteers help SHS

Volunteers at the Seattle Humane Society must be at least 18 years of age. Because of safety issues, we are unable to offer volunteer positions to anyone under 18 years of age, however there are many other ways that young people can help animals.

How to Get Started:

  1. Attend our two-hour volunteer orientation.
    • Attending an orientation allows time to learn our policies, procedures and programs, gain a thorough understanding of the many ways you can truly make a difference — and ultimately help find homes for the animals in our care.
    • There is no need to preregister, but please arrive early to allow time for traffic and parking.
    • We close the doors 5 minutes after the start time and do not allow late arrivals.
    • View directions to the shelter at 13212 SE Eastgate Way, Bellevue; the auditorium is located at the bottom of Driveway B. Parking is limited, but there is additional street parking available on SE 32nd St.
    • Please check this page the day you plan to attend an orientation to see if there are changes or cancellations due to weather.

      Orientation Dates:
      September 23, 2:30 p.m.
      October 14, 6:00 p.m.
      November 18, 2:30 p.m.

  2. Agree to a six-month commitment (with the exception of foster and special events).
  3. Attend training classes pertaining to the program that you are assigned.

  4. If you need further assistance, please email [email protected] or call (425) 649-7557.  Come join the fun and make a difference at the Seattle Humane Society!
