Save Animals' Lives in King County: Write a Letter to your Councilmember

As early as November 1, 2009, King County Animal Care and Control shelter in Kent is set to close. We have offered to provide all animal sheltering and adoption services for King County.

Seattle Humane Society’s goal is to save all the healthy and treatable animals in King County, and to elevate the status and the welfare of animals throughout our community.  For this reason, we are offering to step forward to work with the cities, and assist the county with its current challenges – without the benefit of the roughly $1.5 million annual subsidy that King County has been providing to KCACC to provide the same services.  But in order to be able to succeed in this endeavor, we need to move forward without delay.

We're asking for your help today.  It’s quick and easy.  Here is a draft letter for your consideration. You can edit the letter if you want, and copy and paste it into an email with your Councilmember’s email address and hit “send.” Let them know that you want quality care and attention for the vulnerable companion animals in our community.

Dear Councilmember,

The Seattle Humane Society has stepped forward to offer top-notch sheltering services to the stray, orphaned and abandoned animals when King County Animal Care and Control closes its doors on Nov. 1, 2009.

Please do not continue to support an agency that has failed time and again to provide adequate care for companion animals, and to do so at a great and unnecessary expense.

It is time for the county to get out of the sheltering business.  I urge you to turn the care of the animals over to the Seattle Humane Society and allow them to enlist other private agencies and the community to give our animals the care they deserve.

This is a win-win solution for the animals, for the county, and the taxpayers of King County.

Sincerely,
Your name here
