Walk 2009It was the largest Walk for Animals so far! More than 1,000 animal lovers turned out for the 7th annual event, raising more than $100,000 in donations for the care of abandoned pets at the Seattle Humane Society. This popular event grows more successful and more fun each year!

“Walk for the Animals is such a great event because it brings people and pets together for a truly fun-filled day,” stated Brenda Barnette, Chief Executive Officer for the Seattle Humane Society. “Thanks to the record-breaking turnout, we will be able to care for even more animals in the year ahead, providing them with spay/neuter surgeries, medical services, and loving care until we can place them into homes of their own.”

Walk 2009It was quite a sight to see hundreds of participants walking in bright blue shirts with their dogs along the Burke-Gilman trail -- under sunny skies no less! The event was followed by University Village’s FidoFEST – a celebration of all things dog – which also raised critical funding for the pets at the Seattle Humane Society.

Earning an award for most money raised in the 12 and under age group was Erik Simonsen, who raised $450 in contributions for the animals. The prizewinning individual in the 12 and over category was Dena Fradette, who raised a whopping $1,732. There was a tie between two teams who raised $3,800 each: The Pound Puppies, a team of Seattle Humane Society employees and friends led by Kristi Hill, and Weisbaum Walkers, led by longtime supporters Herb and Debra Weisbaum.

This fabulous event for people and pets was made possible by the generous contributions of our presenting sponsors, KOMO Newsradio and KOMO 4 TV!
