Home for the Holidays '08 – a great success!

Seventy-eight companion animals were adopted last weekend as a part of the Seattle Humane Society's Home for the Holidays celebration. Despite the frigid conditions, the promotion was a huge success--54 animals were adopted on Saturday and 24 on Sunday. Over the weekend, the Seattle Humane also reached an important milestone--4,000 animals have been adopted through the shelter this year!

The adoption lobby was decorated for the event, and Santa and his elves were on hand to help potential adopters find a new family member. With the baked goods and other seasonal refreshments provided by the shelter's volunteers thrown in, it was a great way to kick off the Christmas season.

Statistics show that more Americans add a pet to their household in December than in any other month of the year, and it is wonderful that so many animals from the Seattle Humane Society will be a part of those numbers this year. Many of the families adopting animals as part of last weekend's celebration opened their heart and homes to older pets--an act of love especially worth celebrating. Forty-one of the adopted animals were cats more than a year old; one 14-year-old and two 12-year-old cats are among the former shelter guests who are enjoying the holiday season with their new families.

Please join us in wishing all these families an especially happy holiday.
