IAA will walk you through the process and answer any questions. They handle all of the towing and paperwork and give you the documentation you need for tax purposes. Questions & Answers What information do I need to start the donation process? Please be ready to provide your vehicle's year, make and model. You will also need the title to the vehicle.
What if I do not have the title for the vehicle? Each state has different regulations regarding titles. IAA has a Title Solutions Department who can assist you with any title questions. If you are unable to locate the title to the vehicle, let IAA know. In many cases, IAA can acquire a duplicate on your behalf.
What happens after I submit my donation via the online form? After completing the online donation form, a confirmation email will be sent to you. Within 24-48 business hours, a live customer service representative will contact you to arrange pick-up.
What happens to the vehicle after I donate it? Most vehicles are sold at live auctions to licensed dealers, recyclers and exporters from around the world. The competitive marketplace of buyers generates the greatest return for the charity while ensuring that your vehicle is sold in an efficient, environmentally friendly and legally compliant manner.
Will I receive a tax deduction for donating a vehicle? The sale of your vehicle will support a 501(c)(3) charitable organization so it is tax deductible. Since each donor's tax situation is different, we recommend you consult your tax professional for more information about tax deductibility.
How will the value of my vehicle be determined for tax purposes? As of January 1, 2005 the IRS has set guidelines on how to determine the value of your vehicle for tax purposes. If your vehicle sells for less than $500, you can claim the fair market value of your vehicle up to $499. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you can deduct the
actual sale price of your vehicle.
When will I receive a tax receipt?
Your receipt will be sent to you when the vehicle sells. In most cases, you can expect a receipt within 30 days from the time we pick up your vehicle.
