We’ve received an overwhelming amount of great stories and wanted to be able to compile them all in one area for everyone to enjoy — so here you go! Read and enjoy all of our Families Friday stories weekly on our blog!

Thank you to all of the wonderful pet parents out there who have sent in their family story. If you have a great adoption story you want featured, email [email protected] or post to our Facebook page!

Liz (video): To those of you who thought only dogs did this, this is only a part of my daily “Greet and Groom” from my Ollivander (formally Pekoe) when I get home from work every day. We adopted him from Seattle Humane last Easter and are so incredibly grateful for everything you all do. Can’t wait to get home to this lovable guy every day!

Kaia enjoying her new home!

Christine: Can’t thank you enough Seattle Humane for helping to bring this angel into my life! Kaia (formerly Judy) came to me at 9-weeks-old – she’s almost 13 weeks now and I honestly can’t imagine life without her snuggles and puppy kisses.
I want to thank the wonderful foster families at Seattle Humane, especially the one that housed my baby until she was old enough to come home with me.
Keep up the amazing work!

Terry: Romeo has made himself at home!

Erin: Exactly 1 year ago we adopted two brothers, then just 10 weeks old. Now they are a full grown, very vocal, bonded pair of lap cats. They made our little family complete!

Becca: After warming up rather quickly, big sister Nala is checking out brand new little sister Mango from the top of her “cracker chair.” Thank you, Seattle Humane, for helping us add to our little fur family twice in two years. You’re the best, and these are two happy fur babies!

Two fast friends!

Piper -- safety first!
Piper — safety first!

Tina: Thank you Seattle Humane for our Piper! We adopted her last August when she was 8-weeks-old. She has had a fun summer camping, swimming and even boating. And even though she has chewed 6 pairs of flip flops this summer, we just love her!

Melissa: We adopted Dakota almost 6 years ago and we just wanted to show you what a lifetime commitment looks like. He has 2 canine siblings now along with his human sister and although he’s getting old and slowing down, we will love him until his last day. Thank you for giving us this amazing boy. Entering his golden years now and happy and as loved as he could possibly be. Adoption is for life.

Johanna: We adopted Gabby on June 6th and love having her in our lives! Definitely a spoiled little girl!

Amy (video): Thank you for helping us find Murphy today! His purring on the way home told us we all made the right choice today!

A’mee: Two years ago, we brought handsome Pemba home from Seattle Humane. As you can see, he’s still quite the love! Although he has one less leg than he had when he came home with us (due to cancer), he’s a healthy, active and incredibly affectionate cat. Thank you for all you do!

Looks to be in complete bliss!

Sarah Breece
Sweet little Zeva enjoying a little site seeing!

Sarah: This is my sweet Zeva that we got from you guys 2.5 years ago. Thank you for the best running partner ever. She’s extremely intelligent and has been a true companion for my husband and myself. When she’s out running, she is in her element. Thanks again. We love her!

Heather: I saw Finnegan on the Seattle Humane website last October and it was love at first sight. The wonderful people at Seattle Humane took this sweet boy in after his leg had been broken and he was surrendered by his owner. Despite being an older gentleman and now a tripod kitty, Finn loves to play with his toys and jump on the windowsill to watch the bunnies outside. He has a big personality and makes us laugh every day! Thank you Seattle Humane for all that you do!

Definitely one kitty who deserves this much love!

Christi: This is my buddy Joxer that I adopted from you guys in April, he was nine pounds at the time and he’s already almost forty now… we love him, and are so thankful he’s a Peek now and will always be one!!

Lauren Michelle Stovall
Handsome Jack watching all the activity at home!

Lauren: We adopted our handsome Jack three years ago and he makes us all so happy! I love when he makes biscuits on my face while I try to sleep, his rough kisses in the morning and how he likes to follow people around the house. He’s such a sweet goofball, he always cracks me up! Our family would not be complete without Jack.

Annabelle

By Lizzie Pitts Age 11

Hello there! The name’s Annabelle. I’m a 7-year-old gray tabby that enjoys hanging out, cuddling, and just about anything that involves being with you! In my previous home I wasn’t quite pleased with how my litter box was kept, but thankfully here at Seattle Humane everyone takes great care of me and I don’t mind using one now! It’s so nice to have a clean area to do my business!

I’m not a high maintenance kitty, but I am an FIV+ cat. It doesn’t really change who I am, and I don’t have any special needs – I just might be a little more likely to catch the common cold that goes around.

All the staff and volunteers here think I’m a complete love-bug! I like to be around people and will rule over my domain on a high perch. I enjoy being around people so much that I’m what some might call a social eater – I definitely like to eat when people are in the room.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go on! Email the Adoption Team at [email protected]. I think you’ll find that I’m well worth the trip!

Bunny Pet Tips

Lilly is an adorable 6-year-old bouncy girl who can't wait to meet you!
Lilly was adopted in April 2015!

Every Easter, adorable baby rabbits, chicks and ducklings are given as gifts. Sadly, many are often abandoned or admitted to shelters when the holiday is over. This Easter, you have a chance to make an important contribution to your children’s education by teaching them that adding a pet to the family is a big responsibility.

If you’re ready to add a little bunny foo-foo into your family, take a look at this quick list of helpful bunny tips.

  • Rabbits will need daily care. If they aren’t handled gently and often, they may not be comfortable with being picked up and cuddled. Be sure to give them plenty daily socialization.
  • They LOVE the company of other rabbits. If you have a bunny, consider getting them a companion. Plus, two is better than one!
  • Rabbits are intelligent and curious, and consequently a bored rabbit can be a destructive and unhappy rabbit. Digging and chewing are among their favorite pastimes, so whether inside a cage or out, your rabbit needs plenty of toys to keep them busy.
  • Your rabbit won’t be picky on the type of toy you get them, they don’t have to be extravagant or even expensive. All they need is something simple to keep them entertained – and since they love to chew, be sure to give them plenty of things to chew on. For example, wooden blocks are great!

You don't want to miss out on meeting Heisenberg, an adorable 4-month-old bunny!
    Heisenberg was adopted April 2015!
  • Rabbits thrive on exercise. Along with their love for toys, they also enjoy crawling under and over, climbing on top of things and hopping off and digging and chewing on anything. Make sure to have plenty of things inside their cage that they can crawl into or jump on top of – it will make your bunny happy! Also, be sure to let your rabbit out of the cage and explore the house. Not only will they get exercise, but they can also enjoy socializing with you. Be sure to let them out during a time you are able to supervise them though so they don’t get into anything they shouldn’t.
  • Rabbits have a fairly delicate digestive system; to obtain necessary nutrient, they must be fed a varied diet.
  • They prefer a gentle, quiet environment. If your house is full of chaos and rowdy pets, it might not be the best time to introduce a bunny to your family.
  • Rabbits can be taught to use a litter box, and if they’re spayed or neutered, they are much more willing to cooperate and learn new skills.
  • To keep your rabbit safe from predators along with controlling the temperature of their environment it’s important to keep them inside.

If your family is ready to add a new family member this Easter, come down to the Seattle Humane Society at 13212 SE Eastgate Way in Bellevue, where our experienced adoption counselors will help you find the pet that’s just right for you. The Seattle Humane Society has wonderful bunnies, dogs, cats, and other critters who can’t wait to be part of your family!

We are open on Easter from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rabbits make wonderful household pets. They’re affectionate, playful, social, and can even learn tricks! Bunny care fits into most work schedules as they are most active in the mornings and evenings and sleep through the day and night. Bunnies require a responsible owner who will provide them with a special diet and sensitivity to their bunny-specific needs. In return for your love and care, you’ll be rewarded with a bounty of bunny love!

Lula

Lula and Lizzie enjoying some quality time and under the chin scratches.

Hi there, my name is Lula and people call me a superhero. I’m super-friendly, super-talkative, and super-cuddly! I love to sit on your lap the whole night, just enjoying your company. I may just be the cutest 12-year-old Siamese around, but I have a secret. Shh, don’t tell anyone! I have a diet that I have to follow in order to lose a little of my winter coat (I may have eaten one too many Christmas sugar cookies — oops!) It’s no big deal though, I know for a fact that I’m not the only one!

I enjoy people who have a lot of time to spend with me since I love people! Because I have such a strong love for people, I would prefer to be the only pet in the house since I tend to get a little jealous and territorial when other cats are around.

Besides my love for people, I also LOVE toys! I especially like string toys that hang from doorknobs. My awesome foster parent Lisa says I am VERY playful for being twelve – I just like to have fun!

So that’s me in a nutshell! If you’re looking for a kitty who is pretty, playful, and positively adorable then email the Adoption Team at [email protected] to set up a time to meet me at the Seattle Humane Society — you’ll be glad you did!
