Double the Fun this Weekend

Did you know that most cats love the company of others? We have a few cats who are bonded pairs here with us at Seattle Humane that we would like to show off – because two is better than one!

Baxter and Oliver
Baxter and Oliver

Meet Baxter and Oliver! These handsome felines are 1-year-old male domestic shorthair kitties who enjoy the company of each other. Playing with stuffed mice and batting at feather toys are among their favorite activities. Oliver is a bit on the shy side, but with the comfort of his brother by his side he’s able to come out of his shell and show his true loving purrsonality in no time. These two are sure to provide you with endless love, snuggles and entertainment. They are currently staying in one of our wonderful foster homes, but it’s easy to set up a time to meet them! Contact our Adoption Team at [email protected].

LBKC and Iris

Meet LBKC (Little Baby Kitty Cat) and Iris! These two best friends are fast friends and completely inseparable. They are a little wary of new situations but warm up with gentle attention and a little extra patience. LBKC and Iris rely on each other to help them through these new and scary situations. Once they’ve warmed up to you they will gladly accept all of the attention you’re willing to give them. With patience and gentle coaxing they’ll become loving and devoted companions for life! Both of these kitties are currently nestled in at our satellite location at the Petco in Factoria. If you would like to learn more about this dynamic duo, contact our Adoption Team at [email protected].

Best friends who even eat together!
Romeo and Mel, best friends who even eat together!

Meet Mel and Romeo! These best buds are purrfect for each other! Romeo is a little more self-assured and enjoys being a social butterfly with anyone who seems interested. Mel on the other hand is more reserved and needs a little help to bring out his confident side – which Romeo seems to do just fine. They’re both very loving felines who will be sure to make a great addition to your family! Come into Seattle Humane and meet them before they purr their way into another adopter’s heart.

As an added bonus, all of our kittens and cats are two for one this weekend only! Enjoy the companionship of two fabulous felines instead of just one. Come into Seattle Humane and meet your purrfect match today!

Annabelle

By Lizzie Pitts Age 11

Hello there! The name’s Annabelle. I’m a 7-year-old gray tabby that enjoys hanging out, cuddling, and just about anything that involves being with you! In my previous home I wasn’t quite pleased with how my litter box was kept, but thankfully here at Seattle Humane everyone takes great care of me and I don’t mind using one now! It’s so nice to have a clean area to do my business!

I’m not a high maintenance kitty, but I am an FIV+ cat. It doesn’t really change who I am, and I don’t have any special needs – I just might be a little more likely to catch the common cold that goes around.

All the staff and volunteers here think I’m a complete love-bug! I like to be around people and will rule over my domain on a high perch. I enjoy being around people so much that I’m what some might call a social eater – I definitely like to eat when people are in the room.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go on! Email the Adoption Team at [email protected]. I think you’ll find that I’m well worth the trip!

Prepare for Your 4th of July!

IMG_2241-XLWith the 4th of July quickly approaching, we want to make sure you have all the inside scoop on Seattle Humane fun for the weekend!

Kick off Independence Day with your pooch at Bellevue’s annual Four on the 4th Dog Jog & Walk to benefit the animals at Seattle Humane! This family-friendly and awesomely fun 4k jog and walk begins at Bellevue’s Ashwood Park at 9 a.m. and includes a visit by our own MaxMobile adoption bus, BFD Fire Truck, a dog costume contest, sponsor booths, a bouncy house and so much more! There’s still time to register for all the fun – enjoy a morning with the whole family, including Fido!

If you were a little too preoccupied with activities and didn’t have time to find your purrfect match on the MaxMobile at Four on the 4th, don’t worry! Seattle Humane is open on July 4th and 5th to help you find your newest family member!

After you bring your furry friend home, keep them safe! Dogs and cats are much more sensitive to loud sounds than we are. The sound of fireworks can scare pets and cause them to escape from a yard or dart out an open door. When frightened, they are at a higher risk of running into the street, or getting lost in the dark.

This Independence Day, try the following to keep your pet safe:

  • Keep Pets Inside– Secure pets in a safe, enclosed room, preferably one without windows. For those hosting guests at their home, consider keeping pets in a room that is off-limits to guests, with plenty of water and food.
  • Create of Calming Environment– Surround pets with favorite toys and other familiar objects. Play soothing music and keep the room as quiet as possible by closing doors, windows, and blinds.
  • Keep Away From Fireworks– Besides the potential toxicity pets can experience from ingesting the gun powder in firecrackers, there is the obvious risk of accidentally burning or injuring pets by allowing them to be in the same vicinity as fireworks.
  • Update Identification– The biggest risk this Fourth of July is that pets will get loose from their homes. Even if a pet is secured inside, the sound of fireworks can cause them to enter an extreme panic mode. Dogs and cats are known to break through glass windows or sneak through open doors to escape the noise. Make sure pets are microchipped and wearing identification. Call to confirm that the pet’s veterinarian and the microchip company have current address and phone numbers.

Seattle Humane also offers $20 microchipping services for pets of income-restricted guardians, including national registration. Visit us at seattlehumane.org to learn more about our microchipping services and have your pets microchipped today!

Have a great 4th of July weekend while keeping your pets happy and safe!

Busy Lizzie’s Featured Cat: Tom

TomTom

By Lizzie Pitts Age 11

Hello, my name is Tom! I’m a cuddly black and white ball of fluff who will have people fawning over me as if I were a kitten (I’m definitely just as cute as one)! I have been at Seattle Humane for almost a year now and have become the official office cat. When Mesa comes into work first thing, she’s not allowed to check her email or begin work without a good luck pat from me! I can’t wait to be part of a home and family who loves to cuddle and play just as much as I do! You might be thinking I’m a little on the older side, but I still love my peacock feather and glitter ball! Kids don’t scare me either, I would love to have kids around the house too – it’s just more attention for me!

I am a very special cat; I have diabetes that’s well managed through meals at certain times of the day. You don’t have to worry about giving me shots though, all I need is a specific diet to follow – besides that, I’m just a normal cat who loves to play and be loved on!

What are you waiting for? Come see me at Seattle Humane today! I hope to be the first face you wake up to every morning!

Check out my adorable video to see all of my moves!

As an added bonus, Tom’s adoption fee is waived during the month of June — hurry in and see him today!
