Don't see the right pet?
Do you have your heart set on a purebred? Well, you're in luck because on average, 25% of the Seattle Humane Society's pets are purebred! We find homes for these animals very quickly, so check back often to see if we have the breed you have decided on.

And if you do decide to go with a breeder, make sure you promote responsible breeding by doing your homework and learning about the breed first. Talk to other people who have the breed. Attend dog events. Find out what the genetic weaknesses are in that specific breed as far as health and temperament go. Then, visit the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club's Web sites to find a breeder referrer for your breed.
Once you have a list of breeders you want to contact, think about the questions you want to ask them. Doing a Google search for "Questions to Ask a Breeder" will get you started.
Some purebred dogs can make lovely family members but may be driven performance dogs who live to work and always need a job to be kept happy and out of trouble. Our observation is that most mixed breed dogs will reflect the characteristics of the breeds they resemble, but they will probably be mellower in their behaviors.
And lastly, if you have not found your perfect pet yet, consider fostering! This is a great way to make a part-time commitment. Find out if you can accommodate adding a member to your family. See if a consider fostering! It is a part-time commitment, and who knows, you may just fall in love!
Looking for the Roles of Their Lives!
If you are interesting in auditioning one of our cat-candidates:
* We will introduce you to the stars who are auditioning.
* The cat with the most potential for the part in your heart and home goes on location (home with you) for a full 30 days to see how well they fit the role.
* We will act as an agent through the process by providing assistance.
To meet one of these Auditioning Stars contact Adoption Supervisor (and Acting Agent) Lauren, Wednesday-Sunday at 425-649-7562.
