I want a pet : Pit Bulls are Adopt-a-Bull!

Adopt-A-BullPit Bulls are Love-a-Bull, Train-a-Bull, and Adopt-a-Bull!

Did you know that Pit Bulls are Love-a-Bull?

Pit Bulls have been the favored all-American dog for centuries because of their friendly and loyal nature. Look back at old photographs, and you will find lots of American families posing with their Pit Bulls! Theodore Roosevelt, Helen Keller, and Thomas Edison all owned Pit Bulls. Only in the last three decades have irresponsible owners begun to harm the breed’s reputation. The media has sensationalized the situation and trashed the good name of these naturally affectionate pups. Thankfully that hasn’t stopped many responsible people – including  celebrity dog-lovers like Jon Stewart, Rachael Ray, Madonna, Brad Pitt, and Usher – from making Pits their dog of choice!

Did you know that Pit Bulls are Train-a-Bull?

Looking for a dog that will keep you on your toes? With proper training and plenty of exercise, these intelligent and athletic dogs  excel in canine sports like agility, flyball, and more! To help you get off on the right paw, every Pit Bull adopted from the Seattle Humane Society comes with six weeks of basic obedience training included in the adoption fee. Pit Bulls also make excellent running, hiking, and sometimes even swimming partners. Pit Bulls are often considered the cream of the crop in police work, search-and-rescue, and therapy work in schools and nursing homes.

Did you know that Pit Bulls are Adopt-a-Bull?

The American Kennel Club says, “Pit Bulls are people-oriented dogs that thrive when made part of the family.” The Seattle Humane Society has lovable, trainable, adoptable pit bulls that can’t wait to be a part of your family! Every bully in our care has been temperament tested, health checked, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and comes with six weeks of obedience training. Come meet your new family member today!

We know that some people have concerns about Pit Bulls. We’d like to share some thoughts about those concerns:

It is not right to blame an entire breed for the behavior of the few dogs who make headlines. Dangerous dogs are often victims of irresponsible owners and poor breeding. They are dogs who haven't been socialized and are often left chained in the yard, hungry and in need of medical attention. Media attention on dangerous dogs and irresponsible owners make it difficult for shelters to place loving Pit Bulls in homes of their own, increasing the number of dogs killed in shelters, without making anyone safer.

The Seattle Humane Society works to find responsible, loving homes for healthy, adoptable Pit Bulls. We spay and neuter all the pets in our care before making them available for adoption. We do rigorous temperament testing for Pit Bulls, so that they are ambassadors for the breed. We have a thorough application process to ensure that our Pit Bulls go to homes that will treat them as a member of their family, and we require training classes for dog and owner for any Pit Bull who has been adopted from our shelter.

Our goal is a humane and civil society, where people and pets are safe – including Pit Bulls and other breeds that have been unfairly targeted as dangerous.
