I want a pet : Veterinary Services

Medical Care. Microchipped Dog

Our veterinary team health checks and microchips all of the Seattle Humane Society shelter guests. The veterinarians treat basic medical conditions when identified including fleas/ticks, intestinal parasites, ear problems, skin diseases, dental disease, upper respiratory and lower urinary tract infections and some orthopedic and ocular conditions.

Thanks to our Lexus Fund, we also provide the extra medical attention needed to make our dogs healthy, happy and adoptable.

Vaccines
Dogs are administered the DA2PP and bordetella vaccines. Cats receive the FVRCP vaccine and are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. Rabies vaccines should be administered by your veterinarian after the adoption.

Intestinal Parasites
Dogs and cats receive a standard dewormer for roundworms and hookworms.

Senior Health Screening
Older animals are given a blood panel screening to make sure their internal organs are healthy.

Spaying/Neutering
All dogs and cats are spayed and neutered before being placed out for adoption.

Adopters are provided with certificate for a free health examination with a participating Seattle King County Veterinary Medicine Association veterinarian within the first seven days after adoption. Forming a good relationship with a veterinarian will get your new pet, whether they be a dog, cat, rabbit, rat or guinea pig, off to a great start. It is impossible for us to guarantee the health status of your pet and thus we encourage you to contact your veterinarian if you have any concerns regarding your pet.
